Training.

Independence presents great opportunities for South Sudan and its people, and the media has a crucial role to play the years ahead – raising debate on post-independence issues and in particular scrutinising the performance of the elected officials entrusted with developing the country.

But most South Sudanese journalists are young, inexperienced and ill-prepared to take on this important role, with few ever having received any formal training. AMDISS seeks to adddress this imbalance through its programme of intensive media courses and mentoring programmes.

A series of in-depth workshops are underway, building on the success of previous training projects which included a media mentorship scheme placing trainers in key media houses during the referendum period. More than 150 journalists gained new skills on news writing and broadcasting; digital editing; management; and ethics. This referendum project built on a previous mentoring scheme implemented during the national elections in April 2010.
