Job Summary

The Association for Media Development in South Sudan, (AMDISS) is a media advocacy and training  organization founded in 2003 bringing together its members of the media entities serving South Sudan. The association advocates for conducive media environment for media practitioners and building a professional capacity in journalism as well as provision of a hub for media activities in Juba. 

AMDISS runs various media projects including the Media Development Institute (MDI) aimed at training budding journalists to be professionals in their work. We engage stakeholders on issues of freedom of expression and the press in South Sudan to promote mutual respect to these freedom and support the implementation of the media laws. 

AMDISS is seeking a Finance Assistant to strengthen an efficient and sufficient support to operations to deliver programs.

Purpose of this Position:

Under the supervision of the Finance Manager, the Finance Assistant takes the role within the finance department to assist in managing key aspects of finance functions by ensuring that financial data of the organization is maintained accurately, efficiently and in a timely manner. In broad summary the Finance Assistant is to support in recording all the financial transactions (ensuring efficient and accurate cash and bank books), making payments and preparation of financial reports

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Maintain custody of the office cash fund and make daily payments of approved transactions
  • Prepare cash payment vouchers and ensure that all cash transactions are fully and properly documented
  • Review expense reports (travel expense reports and operational expense reports) for accuracy and completeness and ensure that expense reports have been fully approved before payment
  • Perform daily cash count with the Finance Manager
  • Prepare checks or wire transfer requests based on fully approved documents 
  • Prepare bank payment vouchers and ensure that all bank transactions are properly and fully documented
  • Prepare photocopies of checks and other supporting documents as required
  • File all cash and bank vouchers and maintain the voucher filing system such that files are updated, complete and safeguarded
  • Comply with AMDISS and donor financial policies and procedures. 
  • Support AMDISS staff or its partners to meet the office financial requirements. 
  • Maintain a good relationship with third parties, suppliers and partners through positive communication.  Maintain and track the financial record of all staff  including collecting timesheets 
  • In the absence of Finance Manager, provide support to ensure there is much vacuum in the department.
  • Conduct herself or himself both professionally and personally in such a manner as to bring credit to AMDISS and to not jeopardize its image
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And Experience Required

At least a Diploma in Accounting, Finance or Specialized knowledge of finance 

Two years plus experience working in a finance and administration environment especially with Non-Governmental Organizations ( NGOs). 

Proven ability to address a small range of straightforward financial issues  Computer knowledge including Word, Excel, Access and Power Point Strong skills in communication in English.

AMDISS is seeking a Monitoring and Evaluation Officer to strengthen delivery of its program goals.

Purpose of this Position:

Under the guidance of the Executive Director, the Monitoring & Evaluation Officer will support and coordinate the monitoring and evaluation of activities at project level. These include areas as:-

  • Enhancing a strong capacity of project staff in all aspects of Monitoring and Evaluation
  • Performing data collection and making analysis as per the project activities
  • Record best practices and lesson learnt and
  • Ensure facilitation of data quality assessment and data management for easy interpretation and use

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Participate in organizing and undertaking surveys to provide baseline data when required and as part of ongoing assessment of the impact of the media project activities;
  • Facilitate assessments for understanding of context, identifying opportunities, weaknesses, capacities, resources and setting M&E priorities at the media project level;
  • Ensure effective monitoring and evaluation of project quality by designing variety of monitoring tools appropriate to the activity and other policy documents;
  • Monitor the expected deliverables linked to the projects following the agreed log frame.
  • Support management and accountability through accurate routine collection of data and reporting of information that confirms status of project activities based on logical model;
  • Support implementation of AMDISS and MDI project Monitoring and Evaluation including beneficiary data base through regular online monitoring and making physical visits and tracking of key performance indicators at the beneficiary level
  • Record lessons learnt, best practices and participate in preparation of monthly, quarlterly and annual reports
  • Develop the quality control systems and mechanisms needed to guarantee proper management of information and data and AMDISS;
  • Participate in conducting reviews and internal evaluations and prepare reports in accordance with AMDISS/MDI guidance.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And Experience Required

  • Minimum – a degree in relevant field, preferably in Quantitative Economics, Population studies, statistics or Monitoring and Evaluation
  • Demonstrated experience in program design monitoring and evaluation
  • Previous experience in Monitoring and Evaluation of a media project
  • Previous experience and knowledge of the media environment of South Sudan
  • Capacity building experience in M&E and reporting
  • Computer knowledge including Word, Excel, Access and Power Point – Strong skills in communication in English.
  • At least 3 years of experience in development environment or humanitarian. – Female South Sudanese Nationals are encouraged to apply.
