AMDISS team led by Secretary of the Board Josephine Achiro and Director Ayaa Irene met the parliamentary standing specialized committee on information on Tuesday at the Transitional National Legislative Assembly.

The meeting centered on creating an enabling civic space for the public to participate freely in the issues of public interest which include elections and other issues that affect their lives.

In a statement to the media shortly after the meeting, Josephine Achiro voiced the need to strengthen relations between the parliament and the media to allow the journalists to cover the parliamentary proceedings to keep the public informed on the issues of legislation, and for public also to know what their representatives in the parliament discuss about their issues.

AMDISS Director, Ayaa Irene, emphasized the need to uphold media freedom, open civic space, and ending media censorship ahead of the forthcoming general elections.

On his part, the Spokesperson of the Parliament, Hon. John Agany Deng Kawac acknowledged the positive role AMDISS has been playing in developing the media in the country.

Hon. Agany said the parliament has designated a gallery for journalists to sit, gather, and disseminate credible information to the public once the new sitting chamber is inaugurated.
