Ayaa Irene, the Director of AMDISS, has officially stepped down from her role as Chairperson of the Female Journalists’ Network -FJN.
This noteworthy transition took place during the two-day Annual General Meeting (AGM), an event characterized by vibrant discussions and reflections on the past year’s accomplishments and hurdles.
The AGM concluded with a free and fair election, ensuring a transparent and democratic selection process for the new leadership.
In her address at the event, Ayaa Irene, the former Chairperson of the FJN, emphasized the network’s mission and its benefits to its members.
“When we formed the Female Journalists Network in 2018, it wasn’t for the benefit of us, the founding members. We established it to support female journalists and the women of South Sudan at large in overcoming the challenges they face,” she lamented.
Irene went on to highlight the network’s significant achievements over the past six years, which include establishing an office space, registering with the government, and attracting donors and partners.
Ayaa Irene expressed her belief that it is now time for the original leaders to step down and make way for new individuals with fresh energy and ideas to propel FJN forward.
“This is the right moment for us to step down and allow new people with fresh energy and ideas to take FJN to the next level,” she stated.
This transition marks a new chapter for the FJN, promising renewed perspectives and continued advocacy for gender equality and excellence in journalism.
The network’s unwavering commitment to empowering women in the media industry remains strong, and the future looks promising under its new leadership.
