AMDISS FIRST FEMALE BOARD MEMBER HONORED AMONG AFRICA’S 100 MOST INFLUENTIAL WOMEN.

Veronica Lucy Gordon, an esteemed member of the Executive Board of the Association for Media Development in South Sudan (AMDISS) and a Representative of the Association for Media Women in South Sudan (AMWISS), has been honored and nominated as one of Africa’s 100 Most Influential Women by the African Women Awards Ethiopia 2024.

This prestigious accolade cements Veronica’s status as a key figure in the elite “SHE ACHIEVERS NETWORK,” which recognizes women who exemplify leadership, capability, and capacity, fostering new and solid business relationships.

The African Women Awards aim to celebrate and publicly acknowledge women from across the continent who have made remarkable contributions in their professional fields and personal lives, achieving extraordinary milestones and making significant positive impacts on their communities, societies, and economies both locally and continent-wide.

The Grand Red Carpet Gala awards ceremony, will take place at the HYATT REGENCY in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on November 26, 2024 and the winners will be presented with a plaque and a certificate, celebrating their achievements among Africa’s finest.

WHO IS VERONICA LUCY GORDON?

Veronica Lucy Gordon is a prominent South Sudanese journalist, radio broadcaster, and rights activist.

She became the first female executive board member of the Association for Media Development in South Sudan (AMDISS) in 2014.

Veronica holds a degree in community studies and rural development from the University of Juba and co-founded the Association of Media Women in South Sudan (AMWISS).

She started practicing her journalism career in 1983 as a columnist for the Nile Mirror Newspaper, where she advocated for girls’ education.

Over the years, she has produced educational programs on family planning, reproductive health, childcare, and other issues vital to women’s empowerment in South Sudan.

Her work is particularly significant in South Sudan, a country where media is predominantly male-dominated, and she strives to amplify women’s voices and support female journalists.

Veronica’s dedication to increasing the visibility of women’s issues and promoting gender balance in the media landscape has made her a pivotal figure in the country and even beyond.
