Juba, Thursday, 27th March 2025 – The Association for Media Development in South Sudan (AMDISS) has called on media regulatory bodies in the country to engage with and support media houses in providing timely and accurate information during a period of heightened tensions.
Ayaa Irene, the Director of AMDISS, emphasized the critical importance of access to reliable and credible information during these challenging times.
“At this critical juncture, access to timely, accurate, and credible information is in high demand. It is the right of citizens to be served with such information,” Irene highlighted.
She urged the Media Authority to engage with media houses to identify the challenges they face in obtaining information and to collaboratively develop solutions to ensure the public is provided with accurate and reliable news.
“This is the time for the Media Authority to engage in discussions with different media houses, understand their challenges, and brainstorm possible solutions together,” she said.
Ayaa Irene further called for increased support for mainstream media to ensure they can fulfill their role of delivering timely, accurate, and credible information.
She added, “Such support should include granting access to information and ensuring the safety and protection of journalists, among other measures.”
This appeal comes as South Sudan experiences significant tensions, with ongoing clashes between SPLM-IG and SPLM-IO factions. Reports indicate that several political and military leaders from opposition groups have been arrested, further exacerbating the situation.
