Tokyo, Japan- July 31, 2026- The first Joint Coordinating Committee (JCC) meeting on the project for the Protection of Freedom of Expression and Access to Information to Improve the Media Environment, successfully concluded yesterday.
The JCC meeting brought together key media stakeholders, including the Ministry of ICT and Postal Services, Access to Information Commission, Media Authority, South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation, Association for Media Development In South Sudan (AMDISS), Union of Journalists of South Sudan (UJOSS), JICA and the NHK Foundation.
The meeting deliberated on the role of each stakeholder in the implementation of the project for Strengthening Media for Promotion of Freedom of Expression and Access to Information. The project focuses on the long-term goal of improving the media environment in South Sudan. It encourages collaborative efforts among key stakeholders to achieve their shared goal.
While in Japan, the team learned best practices from the experience of Broadcasting Ethics and Program Improvement Organization (BPO), a body committed to safeguarding human rights and upholding ethical standards in broadcasting industry of Japan. The delegation also held an online learning session with the Media Council of Mongolia. These global insights provide invaluable lessons and experiences that will help refine our strategies and build a more professional, vibrant, and independent media back home.
