CALL FOR SUBMISSION OF STORIES ON COURT REPORTING

Are you a journalist or a media practitioner with a byline in Court Reporting? Well, this is for you.
The Association for Media Development in South Sudan (AMDISS), with support from the Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA), is running a competition to help you strengthen your professional and ethical reporting, with submissions open only for Court Reporting stories.
Below are the guidelines for the submission of stories for the Court Reporting Competition for Journalists 2026:
SUBMISSION DETAILS
• Submission dates: Journalists can submit entries from 25 August 2026 to 25 September 2026.
• Eligibility period for submitted stories: Stories must have been published in a local or international news outlet between November 2025 and August 2026.

Competition Scope
• The competition is limited exclusively to Court Reporting.
Objective
• The competition is primarily aimed at appraising individual journalists who report court cases, encouraging them to report professionally and ethically, and tracking the impact of court reporting training conducted in November 2025.
Publication medium
• Submitted stories must have been published in a newspaper, online publication, or broadcast on TV or radio.
KEY REQUIREMENTS AND FORMAT
Quality
• A journalist may submit up to three different court stories. Jointly written stories are also eligible for submission.
Language
• Must be in clear English. Stories in other languages should include an English translation.
Newspaper/only length
• Must be between 500 and 1,500 words, double-spaced, 12-point Times New Roman.
Audio/video clips
• Must be between 5 and 10 minutes.
Byline
• The story or stories must be in the voice or byline of the court reporter/journalist.
Content
• Must be accurate, fair, and impartial, without editorialising or sensationalising.
Awards
• The competition will recognise a Grand winner, a First runner-up, and a Second runner-up.
